A superb 19th-century Provençal terracotta water cruche, with spout and handle, and glazed in traditional green. This beautiful vessel would have been used to transport water to workers in the farm fields, keeping it cool and clean, ready for drinking. As a well-used and utilitarian piece of French country pottery, this wonderful jug exudes plenty of character and some signs of wear in keeping with its age and usage.
