About the Item

An exceptional antique French Limoges porcelain tray, bearing the marks CFH and GDM, finely hand-painted with a romantic Rococo Revival pastoral scene. The central cartouche depicts a classical maiden surrounded by playful cherubs beneath a flowering tree, rendered in soft pastel hues with refined detail and painterly delicacy. Painted in the Rococo Revival style, the figural imagery evokes the spirit of 18th-century French Rococo masters such as Jean-Honoré Fragonard and François Boucher, reflecting the period’s taste for idealized classical themes, graceful movement, and idyllic landscapes. The scene is framed by elaborate gilt scrollwork set against a pale powder-blue ground. The tray features beautifully pierced and gilded side handles and a delicately gilded rim, highlighting the high level of craftsmanship associated with Limoges porcelain. The underside is finished in a complementary pale blue glaze. The CFH mark is associated with Charles Field Haviland, while GDM refers to Gérard, Dufraisseix Morel, a respected Limoges decorating firm, indicating high-quality porcelain and decoration from the late 19th to early 20th century. Elegant and highly decorative, this tray exemplifies Belle Époque French taste and is ideal for display, vanity use, or as a refined collector’s piece.
