About the Item

A sculptural ceramic bottle designed by Orvokki “Okki” Laine for Kupittaan Savi. The round, flat form is finished in a deep volcanic black glaze, with a glossy centre medallion in cobalt blue and earthy green. Kupittaan Savi’s production in the 1950s–60s stood at the crossroads of folk tradition and bold modernism, and Laine’s work pushed toward the latter. This piece, with its confident form and strong colour contrasts, feels both grounded in Finnish craft and aligned with international modernist currents. Still carrying its original factory stickers, it’s a rare survivor in excellent condition. Whether displayed as a stand-alone sculpture or paired with other mid-century ceramics, this bottle commands attention. It’s a collector’s piece, but also one that slips naturally into a contemporary interior. • Height 20 cm, width 16 cm • Material: Glazed ceramic • Designer: Orvokki “Okki” Laine • Manufacturer: Kupittaan Savi • Period: 1960s • Made in Finland • Marked: Factory stamp, signed, and retains original stickers • Excellent vintage condition — one minor glaze chip on the back NOTE ON THE DESIGNER: Orvokki “Okki” Laine (1920–2005) played a key role in steering Kupittaan Savi toward a modernist direction during the 1950s and 60s. As both designer and company director, she introduced bold abstract forms and striking colour palettes that distinguished the factory’s output from earlier rustic wares. Her work today is sought after for its originality and strong sense of Finnish mid-century design.
