About the Item

This vibrant mid-century ceramic wall plaque is an authenticated work by Cerámica Ycee, a Spanish artisan workshop active during the 1960s and 1970s and known for its expressive, hand-glazed decorative pieces. Crafted in terracotta and finished in richly layered enamel glazes, the plaque showcases Ycee’s signature aesthetic: bold colour, sculptural relief, and a joyful Mediterranean sensibility. The decoration features two stylised sunflowers in radiant shades of orange, cobalt blue, and apple green, set against a deep red ground with subtle tonal variations. Each colour field is separated by raised contours—an entirely hand-worked technique that accentuates the vibrant palette and imparts a tactile, sculptural presence to the piece. The glaze work is particularly striking, with finely crackled blues and marbled orange petals that reflect the high-temperature enamel processes typical of Valencia-region studios of the era. On the reverse, the plaque is signed “Cerámica Ycee” directly into the clay before firing, confirming workshop attribution. A simple wire loop, original to the piece, allows for immediate wall mounting. Highly decorative, graphic, and full of colour, this is an excellent example of Spanish mid-century studio ceramics—perfect for collectors of Mediterranean modernism or anyone seeking a statement wall object with warmth and character.
