About the Item
This is two English ironstone plates; one dinner plate by Davenport and one side plate by Mason's, both in the flying Bird gilded pattern.
Both plates are well potted and hand painted, probably over a blue printed outline, with enamels of different colors and shades. Additionally, the bird and central flower have hand-gilded highlights, which adds to the quality of the pieces.
The Dinner Plate is Davenport's Flying Bird pattern number 6 which is very similar to the Flying Bird pattern on the side plate by Mason as shown on various pieces on Page 227 of Godden's Guide to Ironstone
Granite Wears, by Geoffrey A Godden, published by The Antique Collectors' Club.
The Dinner Plate shows the Davenport blue printed stone-china mark dating to circa 1818 and the side plate has the Mason's blue printed crown mark dating to the late 19th century.
