This late 19th century glazed earthenware mug was crafted in the studios of Cincinnati Ohio's renowned Rookwood Pottery Company and has a traditional form with an ear-shaped handle having a thumb rest. The exterior of the piece is finished in standard glaze and features hand painted decoration executed by highly regarded artist William Purcell McDonald (1864-1931). The decor has an appealing wine harvest theme consisting of grape vines that snake across the surface. The vines are studded with leaves in various shades of green along with two dangling clusters of plump reddish grapes. McDonald's application of paint is slightly raised in places giving the image a dimensional quality. The mug is further ornamented with an ornate silver overlay manufactured by Gorham. The silver decoration covers the handle and rim and includes a series of large etched foliate scrolls and flowers that extend across the body. There is also an eye-catching latticed area that provides a strong visual contrast with the gentle curving motifs found on the other parts of the silver overlay. The underside of the mug has an impressed RP mark along with shape 422 and the letter W. It also carries the incised initials of the artist - W. P. McD - and the letter L. This is a rare and early stone China (Ironstone) mug which dates to the George 111 period, circa 1815 made by the Davenport factory of Longport, Staffordshire Potteries, England. The mug is straight sided similar to a coffee can and has a loop handle with an upper thumb rest. The pattern is number "659", which is one of Davenport's very few chinoiserie patterns. The bold pattern features striking polychrome enamels of rocks and different flowers all in the Chinoiserie style, hand painted over-glaze in different colours over an under-glaze blue printed outline. The pattern is embellished with good hand gilding. There is also a deep border pattern to the inside rim which replicates the outer mug pattern with sprigs of hand painted flowers. The mark on the base of the mug is Godden's 1183, a blue printed DAVENPORT STONE CHINA...

These are a beautiful pair of French Faience dinner plates with pierced rims, made by the Luneville K&G factory and dating to the late 19th century, circa 1895. These large circular earthenware pottery plates are well potted with pierced reticulated rims. Both plates are hand painted over a printed outline, with a similar bold floral pattern in different shades of Pink, blue, green and yellow enamels. Both plates have the the black printed Luneville, K&G factory mark on the base, dating them to the late 19th century, circa 1895. Overall a very decorative matching pair of French Faience plates.
