English Art Pottery orange vase ceramic Chinese style pot
A very attractive small English Art Pottery vase of Chinese-inspired shape covered with a coloured glaze of rich and vibrant effect in orange with flecks of brown and vermilion. The mark is illegible overall as it is much obscured by coloured glazes but it possibly reads ‘Cameo Ware’ which may be a form or version of the mark used for ‘Chameleon Ware’, produced by Clews
Co. of Tunstall, England, in the 1920s and 1930s. Clews
Co., named after George Clews and operating from 1906 was long associated with teapot manufacturing, but production of art pottery began around 1913, with ‘Chameleon Ware’ introduced in the early 1920s and continuing until 1939. This superb vase may be dated stylistically to the period from 1913 to the 1920s and is in perfect condition. We have a couple of superb French Art Pottery pieces including some spectacular Art Nouveau, Deco and Japonist pieces listed here on 1stdibs that are perfect collectors items as well as working well for interior decor.
