About the Item

A set of five antique English bone plates. This lovely set of plates are shaped in a crescent shape and designed to sit neatly beside dinner plates to hold bones or other unwanted bits away from the diner. They are decorated in a blue floral motif with gold accents on a white background. How We Would Style Them: Use these blue and white plates to fit snuggly next to a dinner plate. They were originally used to discard bones, however, we think they would be great to serve rolls. Alternatively, use them at your next dinner party for guests to enjoy passed hors d'oeuvres. Marked at the bottom in blue: VENETIAN SEMI-PORCELAIN HENRY ALCOCK ENGLAND All surrounding a heraldic crown and shield Dimensions: 6.75" wide 3.5" deep 1" tall.

Antique Homer Laughlin “Virginia Rose” Oval Serving Platter – Blue Band Ironston
By Homer Laughlin
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
This antique Homer Laughlin Virginia Rose serving platter is a beautiful example of early 20th-century American dinnerware craftsmanship. Made in the U.S.A. and marked on the underside with the classic Homer Laughlin Virginia Rose backstamp, this piece features the beloved Virginia Rose shape—renowned for its gently scalloped rim, embossed floral swags, and graceful curving profile. This particular platter displays a striking cobalt blue banded pattern, a timeless and highly collectible variant within the Virginia Rose line. The minimal banding highlights the elegant form while allowing the historic ironstone body to speak for itself. Visible age-related crazing, expected wear, and gentle toning across the surface all add to the authentic patina that collectors prize in antique American pottery. The Virginia Rose shape was introduced in 1932 and quickly became one of Homer Laughlin’s most iconic and enduring patterns, used for countless decorated and undecorated dinnerware lines throughout the mid-century. This platter—substantial in weight with a classic farmhouse feel—embodies the charm and durability that made Homer Laughlin one of America’s most historically significant pottery manufacturers. Perfect for collectors of ironstone, American vintage kitchenware, blue-and-white tableware, and Homer Laughlin pottery, this platter is both decorative and functional—ideal for display or everyday service. Condition A beautiful, well-loved antique piece with: Age-related crazing and chips throughout Minor discoloration and glaze toning Some wear to the blue band and raised rim Small spots and manufacturing imperfections typical of early American pottery These characteristics add character and confirm its authenticity and age. Styling Suggestions This platter is incredibly versatile and elevates both rustic and refined spaces: Farmhouse Cottage Kitchen Lean it upright on an open shelf, plate rack, or hutch to add vintage charm and a pop of blue.
