About the Item

A French vintage glazed stoneware confit-type pot with lid and a pair of handles to help lift the substantial vessel. This utilitarian Provincial jar would have been used to store and preserve foods (like a confit or rillette) as there is a small hole near the base. Glazed in a ruddy blend of earthtones over the ribbed body, it becomes a unique work of ceramic art on its own; the wabi-sabi organic quality of the pot in desert hues of brown and neutral glazes lends historic authenticity to any interior. The generous scale remains functional as a storage jar in the kitchen, arranging flowers and greenery, or simply to appreciate as an artifact of culinary history. Please view the detailed images to see the current condition as there are multiple chips along the base and lip. Marked with a small “10” near the lip.
