About the Item
Rare Goldscheider Ceramics Figure of the 1920s.
Representation of a young dancer in a knee-length dress with a white flounce neckline, elaborately decorated with blue flowers against a yellow background, with her arms outstretched to the side, standing on her tiptoes and tilting her head to the left, holding the dress up in a fan shape at the skirt hem, behind her a drum .
On a round, cream-colored, stepped base, with green painting on top and artist's signature 'Laurenzl' on the back of the drum.
Designed by Josef LORENZL (1892 - 1950), was an Austrian sculptor and ceramic modeler. His bronze statuettes often show graceful dancers with long legs and closed eyes. Lorenzl designed numerous ceramics for Friedrich Goldscheider and Keramos and was one of the most popular artists of Art Deco.
This Model 5282 was created circa 1923/24.

Josef Lorenzl
Josef Lorenzl was born in Vienna on 1st September 1892. He started out working at the Vienna Arsenal in the foundry, where he learned the techniques of bronze casting. Working from a studio in the company’s grounds, he was able to produce many bronze and chryselephantine sculptures. Lorenzl was captivated by the female form he became well known for his shapely dancing girls with long, elegant legs and closed eyes. Lorenzl also was a gifted ceramicist, producing pieces for Goldscheider.
