About the Item
A very rare Viennese Art Déco ceramic figure:
Young, pretty lady dressed in a blue costume with a short-sleeved blouse and a flounced skirt, with her dark hair tied back and pinned up in the style of a Spanish woman, wearing a red pearl necklace and a rose as ear jewellery, posing with her head tilted to the right, her hands on her hips, holding the large, black fringed scarf with a colourful floral decoration, reaching down to the floor.
The dancer is wearing yellow high-heeled shoes and stands on a cream-coloured, tiered octagonal base.
Designed by RUDOLF PODANY (1876 - 1963), who was an Austrian sculptor and ceramist, was a pupil of Johannes Benk for one and a half years, then studied for four years at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and attended the
specialised school for sculpture for a further five years, worked for the Schauer porcelain manufactory for ten years and from 1920 for the Viennese company Keramos, of which he was a commander.
