About the Item

A large ceramic bowl by Eugene Friley, 1950's. Eugene Friley (1921 - 2019) began his ceramic journey in 1939 at Ohio State University, at the time a pioneering school in industrial ceramics. While pursuing a degree in ceramic engineering he elected to take an art course and shortly thereafter became a double major in ceramic art and ceramic engineering. After finishing his Bachelors and Masters Degrees at OSU he joined the faculty and taught in the University Fine Arts Program for 43 years, 13 of which he was chairman of the OSU Ceramic Art Program. Friley was not afraid of working in a large format. Many of his pieces are 3 to 6 feet tall.
