About the Item
Beautiful fruit bowl in a sangre-de-toro glaze by Swedish ceramist couple Gustav and Ulla Kraitz. Normal signs of use. No chips or cracks.
Gustav Kraitz fled his native Hungary in 1956 and finally came to Sweden where he met Ulla in 1960. After initially focusing on ceramic utility objects, they gradually began to transition to a more free artistic form. He has experimented with a Chinese glaze technique in a hot, wood-fired oven dating back to the Chinese Ming and Song dynasties, which he further developed after 1956. Later, students from China traveled to Sweden to learn more about this technique from the Kraitz couple. In his work, he likes to bring together ceramic parts of different geometric shapes in dynamic compositions.
Represented at the national museums in Stockholm and Budapest, The Modern museum in Stockholm, Museum Für Angewandte Kunst in Cologne Germany, LongHouse reserve East Hampton New York, San Andelo museum of fine arts San Angelo Texas, COPIA Napa California, Holocaust Centre Beth Shalom Laxton UK, Holocaust Memorial Museum Washington USA and several more.
