18th Century Wedgwood Creamware Tureen Hand Painted by Bakewell England Ca. 1765
By Josiah Wedgwood, James Bakewell
Located in Katonah, NY
This creamware tureen was made at Wedgwood in Burslem, Staffordshire, England, circa 1765. This was where Josiah Wedgwood began his pottery business in the 1750s. The tureen was hand painted by James Bakewell. This exquisite tureen is delicately hand-painted in rich puce enamel with graceful tulip blossoms. Each flower is beautifully rendered with subtle tonal variations and expressive line work. The finial is styled as a closed tulip bud, which echoes the painted decoration and adds a sculptural charm. Crafted from Wedgwood's signature creamware, the tureen features a scalloped shell edge accented by a puce border, enhancing its elegance and lightness. It showcases the artistry of James Bakewell, one of Wedgwood’s most accomplished botanical painters. The flower painting exemplifies the botanical mastery that Bakewell brought to the renowned Green Frog Service...

Pair of Decorative 1960s Italian Creamware Fruit Topiaries
Located in Dallas, TX
A very realistic rendering of a tower of fruit, this pair of creamware topiaries was produced in Italy during the 1960s. Creamware is a unique type of earthenware that is fired at lower temperatures (around 800 Celsius) than most other pottery, then glazed with lead, leading to a creamy, high-gloss finish. You might notice a lack of craquelure to the pottery; this was accomplished by adding flintstone to the glaze, which helps to prevent crazing. Each topiary has a removable lid that consists of stacked fruit...

Pair Tortoiseshell Ware Called Whieldon Ware England Mid-18th Century Circa 1765
By Thomas Whieldon Pottery
Located in Katonah, NY
This pair of antique creamware dishes each have exquisite tortoiseshell decoration. Though these dishes were made in mid-18th century England, circa 1765, they look strikingly modern. The decoration was made on a buff or cream-colored plate by sponging or dusting dry, powdered, metallic oxides onto the plate after its initial firing. The seemingly contemporary, abstract look was created using colored oxide stains, which ran freely when heated in the kiln. As a result, each piece of tortoiseshell creamware is unique. Creamware with this type of decoration is also known as Whieldon ware. It was developed by the English master potter Thomas Whieldon. Dimensions: diameter 9.25" and 9.5." Condition: Excellent Price: $1680 for the pair Background of Tortoiseshell Decoration on Creamware Tortoiseshell ware...
