About the Item
Earthenware tableware with 'Faux Bois' decoration, made by atelier Grandjean Jourdan Vallauris in the 1950s.
In the southern French town of Vallauris, ceramics have been made since Roman times, but Picasso's arrival in the 1950s transformed it into a famous ceramics capital. In addition to Picasso, Chagall and Miró also came to design ceramics here. This led to a new era for artistic ceramics in Vallauris.
Atelier Grandjean Jourdan was active in Vallauris from the 1950s to 1981. The studio was known for its 'Faux Boix' decoration, in which ceramics were painted to resemble olive wood.
