About Sizar Alexis
Sizar Alexis is a Swedish-Iraqi product and furniture designer that experiments with objects that display serenity through geometrical shapes, while
remaining robust in volume. His trademark style is built on creating objects
bear a strong character, accomplished through the use of raw and imperfect surfaces in combination with a deep interest in Brutalism and the rich
cultural and architectural heritage from ancient Mesopotamia. He uses
the delicate character of noble materials juxtaposed with Brutalist angular
shapes to create objects that stand the test of time.
Background and history
Sizar Alexis was born in Ankawa, just outside the city of Erbil in northern
Iraq. His Chaldean roots puts his lineage in a straight line back to 5000 BC...

Unique Green Ceramic Vase by Turi Heisselberg Pedersen
By Turi Heisselberg Pedersen
Located in New York, NY
Organic Vase, 2015, (Ceramic, C. 12.1 in. h x 7.5 in. d, Object No.: 3389).
Turi Heisselberg Pedersen has, all through her career, strived to develop the vessel as abstract form and as an independent sculptural object.
As Turi notes “working in clay is to me connected with many underlying cultural bound references, but also strongly connected to nature. The very process of building in clay is a process from nature to culture. We have an inherent understanding of beauty and design evolved in thousands of years of visual impressions from our cultural history, but especially also from nature. In this context, I am aiming to create a visual and emotional reading of the objects, working with shape, rhythm, volume, movement, and texture”.
In the interplay between culture and nature, Turi’s works are inspired by geological structures and crystal formations, but also by architecture, the edged rendering of a computer drawing or folded paper shapes. Most of her faceted shapes seem to have a seed of coincidence or unplanned development, reminding one of crystal formations growing in irregular clusters.?
Heisselberg Pedersen’s sculptures are hand-modeled from stoneware and glazed with slip-glazes, which gives the works a stone-like, dry surface with a rich texture. Some of Turi’s designs...

Signed “Per.H”
Measurements:
H: 17.9 cm / 7"
W: 25.3 cm / 10".
Per Hammarström is one of Sweden’s most highly regarded ceramicists. Per’s work doesn’t conform to the Swedish style of simplicity; instead he loves colour and texture, and exploring the multi-faceted function of ceramics. Per began his training at the Gustavsbergs Porcelain Studio in 1978, which is sadly no longer in existence. In 1984 he opened his own studio in Strängnäs, and has worked in this manner ever since.
Per’s work is characterised by organic forms and his own distinctive glazes, often in bright colours and strong contrasts. His work is unique, each piece starting out as a roughly thrown form, which is worked and transformed into bowls that are characterised by their delicacy and translucency. The organic form is embodied in the textured ceramics of Per. His works are either made from stoneware or porcelain.
The inspiration of much of his work is the sea, but he also draws from flora and fauna; and the changing of the seasons. The undulating colours of the sea, sky and land manifest themselves in his delicately crafted and vividly coloured ceramics. Through elaborate dining-ware and ceramic ornaments...
