About the Item
pair of ceramic bookends designed by Gio Ponti (1891–1979) for the prestigious Richard Ginori workshop during his early tenure as artistic director, circa 1924–1928.
These bookends feature a rare deep red glaze, a color seldom seen in Ponti’s early production for Ginori, making this pair especially sought-after by collectors of 20th-century Italian design. Both pieces are stamped “Ginori” and bear the crown monogram, confirming their authenticity and period origin.
As one of Italy’s most celebrated architects and designers, Ponti revolutionized Ginori’s production in the 1920s, introducing modernist aesthetics while maintaining the company’s tradition of exceptional craftsmanship. These bookends embody that transition, with their elegant form and refined glazing demonstrating Ponti’s visionary approach to decorative arts.
