About the Item

An exceptional example of early 20th-century American art pottery, this Donatella flower bowl was produced by Roseville Pottery in 1918, one of the company’s most admired early lines. The low, wide form is beautifully detailed with applied relief cherubs and floral garlands, finished in a soft matte glaze with cream, moss green, and warm terracotta tones. The rim is decorated with a distinctive basket-weave border that frames the intricate decoration below. This piece retains its original pierced ceramic flower frog, a rare survival that enhances both its decorative and functional appeal. Together, the bowl and frog exemplify the refined Neoclassical inspiration behind Roseville’s Donatella line, which drew from Renaissance and classical motifs to create highly ornamental yet functional vessels.
