About the Item
+Handmade Ceramic Plate
Peter Lane Artist’s Statement:
Industrial products may seem clean and simple, but ultimately they only reinforce the alienation of modern life. In this digital age we are increasingly drawn to the raw, the natural, and the handmade. We continue to turn to the rich patina of antiques and other materials that reveal the hand of their makers for connections to the real, physical world. The humility in handmade objects draws us in and becomes a starting point for contemplation.
I’m inspired by nearly every historical period and regional style, encompassing all media, not just ceramic. I am drawn to Egyptian bas-reliefs, African textiles, and archaic fragments with weathered surfaces. Humanity’s capacity for creating beauty stands as a common denominator among peoples, as an act of invention, embellishment and communication.
I aspire to function appropriateness, and beauty.
Peter Lane’s work has been exhibited extensively throughout the United States, Japan, and most recently with the Chahan Gallery in Paris. He is also known for his large scale commissioned installations.
