About the Item

Set of 6 salad/occasional plates in Alpha 3 pattern was designed by Kaneaki Fujimori for Kato Kogei Japan in 1980s. Alpha 3 series consists of mugs, salad/casual plates, and decorative serving platter. The plates in the set are decorated with two different, highly colorful striped designs influenced by Memphis Milano style: 4 plates - in multicolor design, and 2 - in red and black one. Porcelain plates were made in Nagoya, Japan; unusual asymmetric, angular geometric shape of the plates supports and adds intensity to the playful colors and shapes of the decoration. Kaneaki Fujimori (1935-) graduated from college in 1958, majoring in oil painting and design, and worked as a designer for a major American ceramics company in Chicago. In 1963 Fujimori returned to Japan to work as a freelance designer for ceramic companies in Nagoya. He received multiple prestigious national art awards, and in 1980s Fujimori became the art director for Kato Kogei, a major supplier of Japanese ceramics to the international markets. The plates are marked at the bottom with "Fujimori Collection Alpha 3 Kato Kogei Japan". The plates are in good vintage condition with age-appropriate signs of use, including light crazing and utensil marks on some of the multicolored plates (please see pictures). We are offering sets of 4 plates and set of 4 mugs (both sets are in boxes, with booklets) and a serving platter from the Alpha 3 series in separate listings.
