About the Item

An especially rare piece of high style Art Deco ceramics by the renowned Cowan firm just outside Cleveland, this vividly-glazed trivet depicts a pair of plump tropical fish swimming in a forest of swaying seaweed. Cowan only operated for a short time, from 1912 to 1931, but during that time became one of America's leading pottery companies, producing Arts and Crafts and Art Deco artware. During that time, many celebrated artists created pieces for Cowan, including Waylande Gregory, Paul Manship, Viktor Schreckengost and Edward Winter.
