About the Item

Bring color and heraldic charm to a shelf or console with this vibrant antique faience vase, crafted in Paris circa 1890 by Alcide Chaumeil. Shaped as a sculptural fleur-de-lys, the vessel features boldly hand-painted motifs in rich blue, yellow, red, green, purple, and black. The front displays an ornate coat of arms with crowned crest and stylized mask, while the sides and reverse are decorated with fleur-de-lis symbols, scrolling foliage, and small ermine-inspired motifs reminiscent of Breton decorative language. The piece sits sturdily on a shaped foot and is signed “CA 391” on the underside for Alcide Chaumeil. The Chaumeil family, active on rue de Paradis in Paris, was renowned in the late 19th and early 20th centuries for their revivalist interpretations of Rouen, Nevers, and Quimper faience traditions. Their workshop produced finely modeled decorative pieces, characterized by luminous glazes, crisp hand-painted ornament, and imaginative sculptural forms. Today, Chaumeil’s work is highly collectible, admired for its quality and for its contribution to the broader French faience revival movement during the Belle Époque. This sculptural fleur-de-lis vase is in excellent condition with vivid colors and a glossy patinated glaze, a wonderful decorative accent for a bookcase, entry console, or display cabinet. A distinctive and authentically French collectible. Dimensions: 7.5"W x 5.25"D x 10.5"H
