About the Item

From Italy, this hand painted Majolica platter has two areas of ornamentation. The outer circle has busts of two different men, one on the top of the platter and one at the bottom. These are surrounded by a profusion of demi-figures, faces and foliate motifs on a white ground. Gold borders are on the outside and interior of the outer circle. The interior scene depicts a harpist playing in front of a seated noble, with two of his attendants behind, all on a double raised circular platform. The blues, green, and ochres used are rich and pleasing, and the quality of the paintings is very good. There is a wire hanger on the back and a makers mark. This wonderful hand painted Majolica platter from Italy will be wonderful on a wall or in a holder on a table.
