About the Item

Celebrate Spanish artistry and tradition with this vibrant 19th century tile frieze. Crafted in Spain circa 1890, the set consists of hand-painted faience tiles mounted within a simple black wooden frame. The eight panels vividly depict scenes from a bullfight, with matadors, picadors, and bulls engaged in various stages of the corrida, set against the bright ochre sand of the arena and framed by the architectural backdrop of the plaza de toros. The hand-painted details are executed in bold, lively colors — rich yellows, greens, and reds — bringing a sense of motion and drama to the scenes. This type of decorative tilework, both functional and narrative, was a popular way of celebrating regional culture in late 19th century Spain. Mounted as a continuous frieze, the piece is ideal for wall display in a kitchen, wine cellar, or library, adding a historical and artistic focal point. The tiles remain in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, showing only light wear that enhances their antique character. Dimensions: 68″ W x 6″ H
