About the Item

A mid-18th-century Dutch Delft tin-glazed earthenware beer jug decorated with a mille fleurs motif in cobalt blue. Produced in Delft circa 1740 to 1770, this example illustrates typical 18th-century Delft faience techniques, including hand-painted cobalt decoration under a transparent lead-tin glaze. The jug retains a pewter lid that is consistent with historical use, although it may have been added at a later date. The form, including the bulbous body, cylindrical neck, and pulled handle, corresponds to standard Delft production in the mid-18th century. The mille fleurs pattern consists of repeated small floral elements and appears within documented decorative groups in blue and white Delftware of the period. Although unsigned, the cobalt palette and brushwork align with known Delft workshop practice.
