From Sarreguemines, a set of four majolica plates, France, circa 1880.
A scarcer mold, two swallows soar against a turquoise sky. The birds are glazed in soft blues, grays, and cream.
The mold shows a paneled rim and raised work suggesting clouds. Just charming, nice to have a set of four.
The pottery at Sarreguemines was established in 1784. The company is known for their majolica earthenware, transfer printed tablewares, and fine stoneware.
8 inches in diameter x .50 inches high
One plate is impressed Sarreguemines on the verso.
All four plates are in very good antique condition with the expected overall craquelure due to age.
