About the Item
Presenting an exquisite early 17th century dish from Jingdezhen, crafted for the Japanese market. This stunning piece features the Ko Akae decoration of an underglaze blue landscape scene with mountains, water and a literati figure. Added are enamel overglaze figures, birds and trees.
Similar piece without enamel is pictured in Curtis book about kosometsuke, see pictures.
As for Ko Akae decoration, it is a style of decoration that originated in the Ming Dynasty in China, and was popular in Japan during the Edo period. It typically features a combination of underglaze blue and enamel overglaze colors. It is highly prized by collectors for its intricate and beautiful designs.
