About the Item

A set of eight English blue and white transfer printed earthenware floral plates, Elkin Newbon, Longton, Staffordshire, circa 1844. Samuel Elkin and Thomas and William Newbon were Earthenware manufacturing partners in Stafford Street, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England from 1844 – 1855. This set of eight plates in the Botanical Beauties pattern is an early production in the partnership. In a lovely soft blue transfer on an off-white ground, with a stylized flower as a central motif, within a border of floral sprays on a stippled ground. A charming hand-made quality found in these earlier plates with some uneven potting to the rims. 9.75 inches in Diameter x 1 inch H. Marked: The pattern name, E. N. transfer printed in a cartouche. Showing the expected light surface wear to the surfaces, one plate with a small, older rim nick. Rare to find a large earthenware set in remarkable condition.
