About the Item

Very complete set in satin-glazed earthenware hand-painted with broad random strokes in elegant grisaille. M.B.F.A, literally "Manufacture Bretonne de Faïences Artistiques", was created in 1947 by the owner of the prestigious Niderviller earthenware factory, Louis Dryander. It was in fact in the small town of Pornic that the Dryander family flying the German occupation, found refuge during the war. The artistic center, with its 80 employees, developed modernist and abstract decors imbued with the major aesthetics trends of the post-war period until the end of the 1960's. With its delicately organic shapes, the quality of the glaze and the beautiful density of the material, this set remains, more than 60 years after its creation, astonishingly modern. All the pieces are in perfect original condition. The decor being done by hand, each piece has its own characteristics, in terms of lines intensity and glazes on edge with sometimes a slight bubbling. Only the sauce pan has a very slight line inside. All the pieces bear the mention "M.B.F.A Pornic Peint à la main" as well as the name of the pattern. On some pieces the hollow stamp of the Niderviller manufacture is visible. The set includes : 24 dinner plates 25 cm diam. 18 soup plates 21 cm diam. 12 dessert plates 20 cm diam. 1 sauce pan 1 covered bowl 24.5 cm diam. 1 serving dish 30 cm diam. 1 deep serving dish 28 cm diam.
