Nata nel 1710 a Meissen, in Germania, questa porcellana ha conquistato nel corso dei secoli una reputazione internazionale per la sua qualità, la raffinatezza delle decorazioni e la maestria artigianale. La storia della porcellana di Meissen è strettamente legata alla figura di Johann Friedrich Böttger, alchimista e ceramista che, dopo anni di ricerche, riuscì a sviluppare una formula per creare una porcellana bianca e traslucida, simile a quella cinese, ma prodotta in Europa. La manifattura di Meissen divenne rapidamente famosa in tutta Europa, e le sue creazioni furono ammirate e collezionate dalle corti reali e dalle famiglie aristocratiche. La porcellana di Meissen è caratterizzata da una pasta fine e traslucida, ottenuta grazie a una miscela di materie prime pregiate e a un processo di cottura particolarmente lungo e complesso.
