Outstanding three-piece salad set from Musterschutz. This rare set includes: 1- Salad bowl: White-based salad bowl with lobster figures. The piece has on its upper edge a metal ring and is signed at its base with the signature of the company Musterschutz. It's marked with Nº 33. The bowl measures 13cm high x 26 in diameter. 2- Cutlery: Metal cutlery to match the salad bowl. They are 27cm long. These pieces of bright colors and extravagant and curious shapes, which were manufactured in large numbers by English firms such as Minton Co. and Wedgwood, and French as Sarreguemines and Choisy-le-Roi, often ended up becoming objects of conversation. By 1878, when the market was saturated with Majolica glazes in vibrant tones, Wedgwood increased its popularity by introducing a white background line with embossed motifs enameled in color. Among those pieces were a series of salad bowls with figures of lobsters and crabs, which displayed the enjoyment of the British for seafood, and that carried on their upper edge, by way of auction, a metal ring. Among those models was one called "Seaweed and sprigs" (seaweed and twigs), corresponding to the firm's C2457 decorative pattern, which consisted of three lobsters that supported an ornate bowl with seaweed inside. Coinciding with the heyday of art nouveau, whose main theme of inspiration was nature, several firms from East Germany developed salad bowls for the famous company WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), which added the ring with its brand and cutlery, also topped with majolica. All of these vessels carried the term "Musterschutz" as the only seal in their base, which in German means "with copyright" or "with a protected patent". In the 1906 catalog of the company there are seven different models, some with trout patterns, others with cucumbers, callampas, nuts, hazelnuts and crabs.
