Exceptional set of Tétard, French, 0.950 (higher purity than sterling) silver 28 plates, from the early 20th century, in heavy gage, with rims adorned with stylized natural motifs, consisting of: 14 bread plates measuring 6 1/4'' in diameter by 1/2'' in height 14 dinner plates measuring 11'' in diameter by 3/4'' in height Total weight is an impressive 391 troy ounces. Hallmarks are shown. Tétard Frères is a high-quality Parisian brand specializing in tableware and flatware. It was founded in 1860 and is known for helping pioneer the iconic Art Deco style of the 1920s. Tetard’s pieces are in the permanent collections of prestigious museums. The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds flatware pieces made by Tetard in collaboration with the top-notch, French crystal company Baccarat and notes that “Tétard Frères was a prestigious Paris silver manufacturer”. The Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris also holds pieces by Tetard, which were exhibited at Paris fair of 1925 which launched Art Deco style on the international scene.
