About the Item

This beautifully preserved Hellenistic glass ring is a timeless and stunning piece of ancient jewellery. Cast from transparent, light green glass, its large size and oval bezel - originally decorated - exemplifies the style and craftsmanship of jewellery from this period. Produced from a wide range of materials, and passed down through several generations, these were prized possessions in antiquity. The use of glass, on its own or combined with other materials, allowed Hellenistic jewellers to create attractive visual effects playing on light, transparency and contrast. For the modern collector, this timeless piece can be displayed in natural light, spotlit, or even worn. UK Ring size Q 1/2 - R 1/2 (US8.5-9) Provenance: From the collection of Paul Adamadi bey Frashëri (1904-1987). Hotel Drouot, Collection de son Excellence Le Bey Paul Adamidi Frasheri, 1 March 1971, lot 17. Subsequently in the collection of Monsieur Lottmann, Paris.
