About the Item

A stunning glass juglet, boasting translucent hues of light green and yellow with copious amounts of pearl iridescence and an elegant, piriform silhouette. The vessel has a spherical body that tapers to a slender neck, culminating in a flared spout with a rolled rim and a delicate applied handle. Vessels of this shape and size were likely used as containers for unguents, oils, or perfumes. Notes During the Roman period, a variety of glass vessel types came into use.. This elegant juglet defined by the long, slender neck was made to hold and pour liquids and oils. The survival of such fragile glass seems nearly miraculous. Occasionally examples such as this, where the glass has reacted to burial, exhibit a shimmering iridescence that has long captivated the imagination of the most ardent collectors and artists.
