About the Item
A very unusual and good quality molded black glass stand with the classical figure of a seated lady, the stand supporting a large round white polished rock crystal ball and with date marks for 1930. The stand is well made standing on an octagonal shaped pedestal base with a lady sat on a curved staircase and supporting the central column, in the manner of a Torchere, and supporting a wide round dish with a rounded hollowed out centre and with the raised edge molded in relief with flowers on scrolling stems. The lady is covered in a cloth which is draped around her and trails over the steps. The stand came with a large round ball the surface of which has been covered in small round polished rock crystal pebbles and immediately gives the appearance of a lamp. The stand is marked FOREIGN, a mark often relating to imported items at the time and also has a registration mark dating it to 1930 however that may relate to the import date rather than the actual manufacture date which might be earlier. We believe that this piece probably originates from Europe or indeed the USA. The ball may also be a later addition.
Provenance: acquired from the British Art market.
In good condition with wear associated with age.
