About the Item
A stunning small Saint Louis two colour glass cameo vase - signed D'Argental with a cross of Lorraine meaning it was made by Paul Nicolas dating to around 1920 -the Cross of Lorraine indicated he made it himself. It is in dark blue (looking almost black) glass cased over pink orange detailed with a fine image of blossoming crocuses and leaves.
Paul Nicolas -one time apprentice and ultimately Chief Designer at Emile Galle (until 1919) - left employment there and went to work for St Louis taking a small team of workers to make the D'Argental cameo range. These vases were unusually made of Crystal rather than the Demi-Crystal employed by Galle helping make the fine detail in their vases of exceptionally high quality
