About the Item
A stunning large Saint Louis two colour glass cameo vase - signed (raised) D'Argental with cross of Lorraine meaning it is made and designed by Paul Nicolas dating to around 1920. It is in dark blue cased over yellow orange detailing fabulous large dark blue fir cones with long spiky blue needles. The vase is a double almost triple gourd shape with a small opening.
Paul Nicolas -one time apprentice and ultimately Chief Designer at Emile Galle (until 1919) - left their employment and went to work for St Louis taking a small team of workers to make the D'Argental cameo range. These vases were unusually made of Crystal rather than the Demi-Crystal employed by Galle helping make the fine detail in their vases of exceptionally high quality
