About the Item
A stunning small Saint Louis two colour glass cameo vase - signed (raised but blind) D'Argental and designed by Paul Nicolas dating to around 1920. It is in reds cased over orange detailed a fabulous blooming orchids surrounded by maidenhair ferns. The vase is in a bulbus for with a pronounced lip.
Paul Nicolas -one time apprentice and ultimately Chief Designer at Emile Galle (until 1919) - left their employment and went to work for St Louis taking a small team of workers to make the D'Argental cameo range. These vases were unusually made of Crystal rather than the Demi-Crystal employed by Galle helping make the fine detail in their vases of exceptionally high quality
