About the Item

Excellent large trumpet-shaped baluster vase on a round, stepped base, widening conically above the constriction and tapering towards the inward-facing rim, colourless glass with flaky opal-yellow, azure-blue colour powder melts in the base layer, decorative layer in marbled violet, with orange-speckled powder melts on the foot, highly etched stylised thistle decoration, satin finish in the background and on the inside, decorative layer polished, etched needle signature 'Le Verre Français' on the foot. Technique: Handmade cameo glass Glass overlaid with several layers, with high-cut worked out motifs. Since the middle of the 19th century, the design has also been done by etching. Cameo glass vessels were already being made in antiquity; cameo glass vessels were already being made in ancient times, and at the end of the 19th century this glass art was further developed, especially in Nancy. Manufactory: Verreries Schneider, Epinay-sur-Seine, France The brothers Ernest (1877-1937) and Charles Schneider (1881-1953) both started out at Daum Frères Cie, Verreries de Nancy, where Ernest was responsible for sales and Charles worked as a freelance modeller and designer for the glassworks alongside his studies at the École des Baux Arts in Nancy and later in Paris. In 1913, the brothers teamed up with architect Wolf to found their own glass factory in Epinay-sur-Seine, operating under the name 'Schneider Frères Wolf'. Due to the war, the company had to close in 1914, but the brothers kept it going after the war, starting in 1918 under the name 'Verreries Schneider'.
