This mid-19th century goblet embodies the neoclassical style popular across Europe at the time. Crafted from glass, its conical shape features gilt decoration on the rim. A hand-painted scene depicts a woman relaxing under a tree as a playful cupid looks on. While the artist is unknown, the skilled artistry reflects neoclassicism's reverence for antiquity.
Inspired by ancient greek and roman art, the Revival style prized order, symmetry and classicism. This goblet's pastoral motif and restrained ornamentation exemplify hallmarks of mid-19th century Neoclassicism.
