About the Item

Venini, Murano “Zanfirico Reticello” Vase Murano, 1985 Colorless blown glass with blue and white zanfirico and reticello thread decoration, creating a delicate net-like pattern. Signed on the underside: Venini Italia 1985. This model was originally designed and produced by Venini C. in 1954, representing one of the most refined expressions of Murano glass artistry of the mid-century period. The technique combines zanfirico (twisted filigree canes) and reticello (crossed canes with trapped air bubbles), requiring exceptional skill and precision from the glassmaker. The design is documented in the exhibition catalogue “Paolo Venini and His Furnace” (Le Stanze del Vetro, Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice), edited by Marino Barovier and Carla Sonego, published by Skira, pp. 119–139, item no. 3843. The model was first presented at the 10th Milan Triennale and the 27th Venice Biennale in 1954, where it received critical acclaim for its technical sophistication and purity of form. Signature: “Venini Italia 1985” engraved under the base Technique: Blown colorless glass with zanfirico and reticello decoration Date of this example: 1985 Model design date: 1954 References: Paolo Venini and His Furnace, Marino Barovier Carla Sonego, Skira, pp. 119–139, no. 3843
