About the Item

This chalice features a post battle enamel painted scene with a laural being placed upon the seated victor and a man pleads for mercy on behalf of defeated warriors and a family. The quality of the Renaissance style painted enamel and depth of surface is extraordinary and well represented in the photos. The stem and ruffled feature gold aventurine. The Neoclassical glass of Murano is responsible for the rebirth of the Industry there in the 19th century and has been in near constant production with varying levels of quality, craftsmanship and detail ever since. The trade commonly refers to these as style of Salviati based upon the 19th century firm. I attribute this example to Seguso in the late 1940's based upon examples that have sold in cataloged auctions with extant stickers with associated documented dates of use. Perfectly at home in a Hollywood Regency, Neoclassical, Tudor or medieval interior and certainly appropriate for any serious collector of Murano glass. If you collect modern Italian glass and want a single example of what it evolved from.... this would be a great addition.
