About the Item

A very unusual and stylish Venetian attributed ‘pinecone’ art glass vase probably by Salviati and dating from the latter 19th or early 20th century. This unusual hand-blown vase stands on a large round base with a narrow stem with a tree shaped body with applied prunts applied horizontally and forming stylized branches in the form of a pine/spruce tree. The vase has a funnel shaped neck with a fold back top edge and is blown in brown smoked glass. The base has a recessed broken pontil mark and the glass includes a number a number of bubble inclusions. The vase is not marked although has the style and characteristics of a piece dating from the latter 19th century and attributed to Salviati. Provenance: Acquired in the UK Art Market. The vase has a number of natural inclusions in the glass and stands at a slight angle. There is a very small chip to the underside of one of the prunt applications.
