About the Item

A scarce original antique European Baroque Period tooled leather clad cutlery caddy, circa 1740 Handcrafted in Continental Europe in the first half of the 18th century, likely Spanish or Portuguese, possibly Italian, having a slanted hinged lid, over shaped canted wood case, clad in decorative foliate tooled and parcel gilt leather, with hand-forged iron hardware, opening to lined slotted divided fitted interior. Dark rich beautifully aged patina over the whole, heavily worn and distressed, adding to the sophisticated antique character, elegant rustic warmth, and rich historical depth that can only be acquired over very long periods of time. Dimensions: (approx) 12" High, 8" Wide, 6.75" Deep, 5lbs.
