Hallmarks: 'A*H' , mark '88' and image of a female head in a kokoshnik, leads to the time of Imperial Russia and Finish silversmith August Frederik Hollming (1854 – 1913), who worked at Faberge. Unusual and incredibly beautiful empire style miniature vase. The elegant jewelry work and design of the vase vaguely resembles a beautiful pearl drop. The color palette and tone of the vase changes surprisingly depending on the lighting. By level of jewelry craftsmanship and fantasi with which this vase is made, we assume that the vase was made by a very high class Finnish jeweler by A. F. Hollming, comparable to famous Russian jewelers such as Carl Fabergé. The design of his jewelry was surprisingly modern and ahead of its time. Full handmade: hand-drawn, embossing, hand chased, engraved and casting of finest quality. Besides the bottom there are few hallmarks on applied garlands. Comes from Swedish estate.
Size app.: 13 x 9 cm (roughly 5.11 x 3.54 in). Weight app. is 195 gram (app. 0.42 lb). Very good condition, minimal wear. Silver, enamel, gilding. August Frederik Hollming was born in Loppi, Finland. Hollming was apprenticed to the goldsmith Carl Friedrich Ekholm in Helsinki at the beginning of the 1870s. In 1876, he settled in St. Petersburg and registered as a goldworker. In 1880, he qualified as a master and opened his workshop at 35 Kazanskaya Street, St. Petersburg, he was soon thereafter hired by Fabergé. The history of "Seguso Vetri D' Arte" is directly linked to the "Vetreria Artistica Barovier" company. When the Barovier workshop was forced to reduce production in 1929, due to a financial crisis in America, the
original group of ten partners had to separate and Antonio Seguso in 1931, assisted by his sons Ernesto and Archimede opened a small workshop of his own. They were joined by Luigi Olimpio Ferro and Napoleone Barovier the following year. Together the craftsmen establish the "Artistica Soffieria e Vetreria Barovier Seguso & Ferro" company as equal partners.
In 1934 Flavio Poli joins the firm as artistic director and within only a brief period of time a distinct style of designs emerged. The close collaboration between Flavio Poli, Archimede Seguso and Alfredo Barbini played an important part in the success of the company. New glass techniques are developed which include never before seen color applications.
The companies innovative designs constantly received awards and during the 1935 World Fair in Brussels and the 1936 Milan Triennale they did attract the interest of a new group of clientele. One of them is the French wholesale company "Veronese" from Paris which would play a defining role in the history of the company.
The demand for an increase in production requires additional investments and the partners felt that there is a need to multiply their investment tenfold.
Luigi Olimpio Ferro subsequently decided to withdraw from the company and his shares are acquired by Flavio Poli, which makes him a full partner. As a result, the company name is changed to Seguso Vetri D’ Arte and it is officially recognized in 1937. A period of great success and prosperity ensues, lasting until the outbreak of World War II.
The post war period is a time of great change in Europe and the rebuilding of the economical structure in Italy requires major investments which result in the introduction of new import duties and taxes.
To safeguard the copyright of the Seguso Vetri D'Arte designs an application for a second entry into the commercial registers of Venice is made by the partners in 1945.
Strict export regulations curb international business relations for many years after the war and the company decides to focus on the domestic market instead. In 1946 a large retail location is opened at the Piazza Diaz in Milan where in addition to the art glass, German porcelain and Italian pottery is offered.
In 1950 Flavio Poli develops a new sommerso glass technique, which consists of an overlaying of transparent layers of glass. The overlapping creates new shades of color which prior to the introduction of this technique had not been seen. Flavio Poli's most iconic design is the "Valve", which resembles an upright, slightly opened clam shell. The design was introduced in 1951. Dimensions: Height 2cm, diameter 32.5cm
Beautifully crafted from steel with gold and silver damascening, this fine 19th century plate is profusely decorated with scrolling arabesque detailing. Around the rim of the plate, scrolling foliate vines and flowers are interspersed with four grotesque masks. The centre is similarly decorated, with intertwining scrolls, acanthus leaves, dolphin heads, and swans.
There are also two coats of arms to the centre, which feature crowns and gold bows above. On one of the shields, the top half features a bird with its wings spread wide, with a church building to the bottom half. The other has an angel figure to the left and a double headed eagle to the right. The joining of two coats of arms in this manner often symbolizes the joining of two noble families in marriage, so the present plate could have been produced in celebration of a noble wedding.

In the center, a beautiful rectangular miniature cm. 4 x 5.5 hand painted in tempera on vegetable ivory plate by Roberto Masi depicting the portrait of Madame Boucard by Tamara De Lempicka (1931). Size cm. 14 x 19 x 3.2. Weight gr. 1,248. Designed by Giorgio Salimbeni in 1998 and manufactured in Florence in various specimens with different subjects and colours, in the headquarters of the Salimbeni company with completely manual execution by artisan artists with thick slab and large reinforcements suitable for withstanding numerous glazing firings at high heat about 800°C.
Miniature is a very ancient technique which consists of painting works in small proportions.
It was born for the decoration of the first letter of the paragraph of the books.
Over the years, however, this technique is refined and enriched, then moving on to precious personal items.
