About the Item

Place this antique copper pitcher next to the fireplace or entryway as a charming accent piece. Crafted in France circa 1780, the vessel was traditionally used as a coal scuttle and is hand-forged from heavy copper with a generous side handle and an elegant, wide pouring mouth. The hammered surface shows wonderful irregularities and tool marks, giving the piece its warm, timeworn character. The flared base provides stability while the tall, rounded body creates a classic provincial silhouette. The pitcher is in good condition commensurate with age and use, exhibiting a rich polished patina and light verdigris in recessed areas; note the small hole on the handle as shown.
