About the Item

A rare 1940's Taxco Mexico copper and brass pitcher by Mexican silversmith and metalworker Héctor Aguilar. The pitcher combines the use of brass and copper joined by round brass rivets. The piece is sealed on the bottom with the HA monogram, the HECHO EN MÉXICO seal and the TAXCO seal of origin. Héctor Aguilar (1905 - 1986) was a Mexican silversmith known by his innovative designs and technical mastery. As many great masters of silver from Taxco of his generation, he first learned the craft under the guidance of William Spratling. In 1939, Aguilar opened his workshop, Taller Borda, where he worked as its lead designer until its closure in 1966. Besides his work as a silversmith, Aguilar also manufactured bronze and wrought iron pieces for home decorations and lamps. After his retirement, some of his disciples continued with his vision: Luis Flores (d. 2010) and his son Jaime Flores were some of the most prominent followers of Aguilar's legacy.
