About the Item

A whimsical and collectible 1950s silver-plated creamer and sugar caddie set designed and manufactured by the legendary Los Castillo workshop of Taxco, Mexico. Hand-wrought in solid brass and finished with a gleaming silver-plated surface, each vessel features Los Castillo’s iconic sculptural bird handles—meticulously formed in brass and inlaid with richly mottled malachite. The sugar pot is marked Hand Wrought Plateado, while the matching creamer bears the full hallmark: Los Castillo • Taxco • Hecho en México • 209, confirming its origin from one of the most influential mid-century silversmithing studios in Mexico. This charming set is a superb example of Los Castillo’s celebrated design language: playful figurative motifs, masterful hand-hammered metalwork, and exquisite stone inlay inspired by pre-Columbian and folk art traditions. Measurements Sugar Caddie • 4" H × 5" W × 3.25" D Creamer Pitcher • 4.50" H × 4.25" W × 3.50" D About Los Castillo Founded in 1939 by the Castillo brothers—Antonio, Jorge, Miguel, and Justo—Los Castillo became one of the most important design studios in Taxco, the epicenter of Mexico’s silversmithing revival. Alumni of William Spratling’s workshop, the brothers developed their own distinct aesthetic using bold silhouettes, mixed metals, brilliant stone inlays, and imaginative forms drawn from Aztec, Mayan, and naturalistic themes. Today, Los Castillo pieces are highly sought after by collectors of mid-century Mexican silver and decorative arts worldwide.
