About the Item
Decorate a shelf or a kitchen counter with this elegant Majolica antique pitcher. Created circa 1890 and stamped "Sarreguemines, France" on the bottom, the pitcher features a seated canine with both front legs up and begging for a treat. The dog water jug is in excellent condition with rich colors in the white and black palette.
Sarreguemines pottery is a type of French earthenware and majolica that was produced in the Lorraine region of France. The pottery was known for its rich colors and humorous character jugs; it also produced a variety of majolica tureens, vases, asparagus items, and figural piece. The pottery was founded in 1784 by Nicholas-Henri and Paul-Augustin Jacobi and Joseph Fabry. It expanded and prospered under the management of Paul Utzschneider, who took over in 1800. The factory produced tiles for the Paris metro and majolica in the 1860s. It ceased production in 2007 and was liquidated.
