About the Item
This charming antique glass claret jug features a beautifully hand-enamelled portrait of a stag set against a softly graduated sky and lush green forest foliage. Likely produced in Germany around the late 19th to early 20th century, this type of enamelled decoration was popular in alpine and hunting-themed lodge décor.
The tall, tapered form is mouth-blown, with a clear glass handle pulled directly from the body. The rim is finished with a hand-applied gilded band that adds a refined accent to the rustic, naturalistic painting. Surrounding the central stag medallion are trailing green leaves and tendrils, further enhancing the woodland character of the piece.
A lovely display item for a hunting lodge, cabin, rustic interior, or collection of enamelled glassware, this jug also serves as a functional wine or claret pitcher. Its evocative decoration and handmade quality give it great decorative presence.
